Das Turnier der Champions bei der WSOP 2009

Dieses Jahr wird in Las Vegas zum ersten Mal ein Turnier der Champions ausgetragen - ein Turnier, das mit größter Spannung erwartet und ein Publikumsmagnet sein wird.

Es gibt kein Bracelet zu gewinnen - jeder der Teilnehmer hat bereits mindestens eines - aber eine einzigartige Ehrentrophäe und einen Oldtimer; eine restaurierte Corvette von 1970,!

Es handelt sich um ein Einladungsturnier an dem alle Gewinner der bisherigen Main Events teilnehmen können.

In den 39 Jahren gab es 33 verschiedene Gewinner – 8 sind bereits verstorben und einer hat seine Teilnahme abgesagt.

Das heisst am 31. Mai 2009 werden 24 WSOP Main Event Gewinner gegeneinanderantreten!  Dieser Event wird die meisten  Zuschauer anlocken, abgesehen vom Main Event . Es werden lebende Legenden an den Tischen sitzen  - die besten Poker Spieler der letzten 39 Jahre in einem Turnier !

ESPN wird dieses Turnier – eines von nur 4 übertragenen Events – im August ausstrahlen. .

Die allgemeine Stimmung der eingeladenen Spieler wird wohl am besten von James Gold, dem Gewinner von 2006 und von Greg Raymer, der 2004 gewann wiedergegeben:

The Champions Invitational WSOP 2009

This year at the WSOP in Las Vegas we will see for the first time a champion’s invitational – a tournament which is expected to draw more attention than all the other events, except the Main Event.

The Invitational event is exclusive to the 25 surviving WSOP Main Event champions. It’s one of the four WSOP events to be broadcasted on ESPN this summer.
There’s no cash prize and there’s no WSOP bracelet, but the winner will take home a commemorative trophy named in honor of the Series-founding Binion family as well as a restored 1970 Corvette.

During the 39 years of WSOP, there were 33 different Main Event winners. Of the surviving 25 legends, Bobby Baldwin graciously declined the invitation, thus leaving it to 24 past champions to battle it out.

This means, when the tournament kicks off on May 31st, we will see 24 living legends at the tables, the best players over the last 39 years, playing to be the champ of the champs!

Greg Raymer, (2004 winner) concurred “The group of champions is very select and it is an honor to compete with them in this event.”
